Police are looking for the bodies of a missing couple at a hair salon in Cuijk, 27 years after they disappeared, reports Omroep Brabant.

Jan and Reit Kelders vanished almost three decades ago, on September 22nd, 1989, but their case has been reopened after new evidence of a crime.

The couple, who had one son, lived on Haagsestraat in the town in the southern Netherlands where Artizte Kappers hairdresser now stands. ‘There are indications that the bodies of the couple have been hidden on the site,’ a police spokesman told the local broadcaster.

‘The scenario [that they had gone to England] was examined at the time but did not lead anywhere. So it is very unlikely.’

Police were examining the area for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, after analysing the soil with special equipment in August. They have excavated a concrete garage floor which had been laid on top of a grease pit – a hole in the ground intended to filter waste – and expect the investigation to last another week.
