France beat the Netherlands in World Cup qualifier

World Cup 2018 logoThe Dutch national football team has gone down to third place in Group A after losing their latest World Cup qualification match to France 1-0. Paul Pogba put France ahead with a long shot in the first half.

Oranje were missing Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben through injury and suffered an early setback when Quincy Promes went off injured after just 15 minutes. In the second half, midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum left the pitch with a hamstring injury.

The Dutch team now have four points from three games. France is top with seven points, with Sweden in second place on goal difference. Oranje will take on Luxembourg in their next match.

Only one team from each group will automatically qualify for the World Cup, which takes place in Russia in 2018.
