DNA tests have discovered the father of a baby girl abandoned in The Hague last year, reports NOS.

The child was found in the front garden of a house in Larensestraat with a note saying the mother already had two children, could not take care of the girl and was going abroad.

She was taken to hospital for health checks and then placed under foster care by child protection services.

The father was discovered by running the girl’s DNA through the criminal database but since he ‘had various associations’, he said, he did not know the identity of the mother. One or two babies are abandoned in the Netherlands each year, although this is illegal.
