Some 66% of the Dutch support membership of the EU but there is a sharp divide between people with college degrees and the low skilled, according to a new TNS Nipo poll for the European green parties.

However there is little support for a Nexit. Just 28% back Dutch withdrawal from the EU and 55% are opposed, broadcaster NOS quotes the poll as saying.

The poll also shows the European central bank is the best known EU institution and that many people are unaware of what various EU institutions do, or who its leaders are.

Just 47% knew Jean-Claude Juncker is the head of the European Commission and only 19% know that Martin Schultz is leader of the European parliament.

Opponents of the EU criticise the distance between Brussels and the ‘ordinary man’, say it is too bureaucratic and costs too much. However, supporters of the EU also consider these issues to be major problems, NOS quoted the poll as saying.
