Brothers arrested for fatal Tilburg hit and run

Police cordon at the Haaksbergen crash site

Two brothers have been arrested in connection with a fatal hit and run accident in the centre of Tilburg which left two people dead.

The car ploughed into a 62-year-old man and 59-year-old woman as they were crossing the road on Thursday evening, killing them both instantly. Eyewitnesses were able to recall part of the number plate and the car was traced to a nearby car park.

The 20-year-old owner of the car was the first to be arrested. Police say they then ‘applied pressure on the family to find out who was driving’. The 23-year-old brother of the car owner turned himself in at a police station shortly afterwards.

The investigation into exactly what happened is ongoing, police said.
