Tesla crash car was doing 155 kph, automatic pilot was off

police carThe Tesla car involved in Wednesday’s fatal crash on a rural road near Baarn was travelling at 155 kph and the automatic pilot was not turned on, company investigators said on Thursday.

The information obtained by Tesla technicians was shared directly with the police, who confirmed the findings, broadcaster NOS reported.

Tesla cars are in continual contact with the company so that it can collect information about performance and update software. The information shows that the automatic pilot system had not been turned on at all.

The body of the dead man could not be removed from the car until the afternoon because the vehicle had been so seriously damaged and emergency service workers were concerned about being electrocuted.

Eyewitnesses told RTL news the car was on fire for at least 30 minutes after the crash.
