Two die, one in hospital after fire in Zeeland nursing home

Mercedes_Gemco_Brandweer_KennemerlandTwo people have died after a fire broke out in a care home in Zeeland at the weekend.

The fire started in a second-storey apartment in the Nieulande residential complex in Krabbendijke on Sunday. One of the victims died at the scene. Piet Zoon, mayor of Reimerswaal, told Omroep Zeeland on Monday morning that a second person had died in hospital overnight.

Three other residents were taken to hospital, one of whom is being treated for serious injuries. The remaining two have been discharged.

The fire service is investigating the cause of the blaze. In total 37 people were evacuated from the building and had to spend the night elsewhere.
