Members of the Dutch Olympic team arrived back in the Netherlands on Tuesday and were taken to a hero’s welcome at the RAI exhibition centre in Amsterdam where they were cheered by family, fans and friends.

‘This is really great, it makes a good end to the event,’ 200m silver medal winner Dafne Schippers told broadcaster NOS. Schippers, who was disappointed not to win gold, said she is now preparing for her next race. ‘Only after that can I enjoy a holiday,’ she told the crowd.

The Netherlands ended in 11th place in the medals table with eight gold, seven silver and four bronze medals.
