Mixed fortunes for Dutch clubs in Europa League draw

Amsterdam football club Ajax will meet Standard Luik, Spain’s Celta de Vigo and Panathinaikos in the group round of the Europa League following Friday’s draw.

Celta Vigo coach Eduardo Berizzo told the Uefa website:  ‘We’re in a very strong group but we’ll prepare well… When I saw we had been drawn with Ajax I remembered playing against them with Celta. They are a European great and it’ll be an honour to try and beat them.

Feyenoord, drawn in group A will meet Manchester United, Fenerbahçe and Zorja Loegansk from Ukraine. Their first group match will take place on September 15.

The draw means Fenerbahçe striker and Dutch international Robin van Persie will face former sides Manchester United and Feyenoord this autumn. The draw also reunites Feyenoord’s Dirk Kuijt with his old club. The striker played for the Turkish club for three seasons.

AZ of Alkmaar will meet Zenit Sint-Petersburg, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Dundalk FC.
