‘Experienced’ climber dies after 500m fall on Austrian moutain

A Dutch mountaineer has died after falling 500m while climbing a mountain in Austria.

Rescue workers found the body of the 49-year-old man on Grosses Wiesbachshorn, a 3,564 metre peak to the south of Kaprun.

Austrian police said the man and his 38-year-old companion had reached the summit and were on their way back down when the accident happened.

Police added that weather conditions were good, both climbers were experienced and they were well prepared for the ascent.
