Ministers have agreed to scrap a ‘luxury’ tax on sparkling wines such as champagne and prosecco, according to RTL news.

The tax will be removed next year and that will cut the cost of a bottle of bubbles by around €1.10, the broadcaster said.

The tax only applies to sparkling wines in bottles with corks, not screw tops. According to RTL, some 10 million bottles of sparkling wine are sold in the Netherlands every year.
