In an event 65 million years in the making, Trix the Tyrannosaurus Rex received a welcome worthy of a rock star when she arrived in Leiden on Friday morning.

At a ceremony dubbed T Rex in Town, a large crowd centred in the city’s Beestenmarkt to greet the parade bringing in the bones of the ‘top quality’ female dinosaur that was unearthed in Montana three years ago.

Named ‘Trix’ in honour of former Queen Beatrix, the dinosaur will go on display at the Naturalis national natural history museum. The 12 metre long skeleton will be carefully pieced together over the next few weeks in time to be unveiled at an exhibition scheduled to open on 10 September.
