Zeeland giant wind farm contract awarded to Denmark’s Dong

LELYSTAD - AUGUST 17: Traffic moves slowly along a busy highwayThe development of the biggest wind farm off the coast of Zeeland is likely to cost €2.7bn less in subsidies than planned, economic affairs minister Henk Kamp has told parliament.

In addition, the wind farm will be able to generate 22% more electricity than earlier thought, Kamp said in a briefing to MPs.

The contract to develop the wind farm has been awarded to Danish company Dong.

In 2014 Kamp and infrastructure minister Melanie Schultz allocated three areas off the Dutch coast for the development of five large scale wind farms. All five should be operational by 2023. Together they should provide enough power for five million homes.
