Woman dies parachuting from electricity pylon

Electricity pylonsA 28-year-old woman has died after her parachute failed to open when she jumped off an electricity pylon on the Gelderland village of Afferden.

The woman was an instructor at the national skydiving centre in Teuge, near Apeldoorn.

She and three others were taking part in base-jumping, the practice of jumping off high buildings with a parachute. Base-jumpers do not carry a reserve.

The pylon was some 60 to 70 metres high, news agency ANP said.
