Unilever is to cut an eighth of jobs at its Unox sausage factory and make packaging thinner too, reports NOS.

The Dutch broadcaster says that in the next two years, the company will shed 43 of its 335 jobs at its plant in Oss, North Brabant.

‘Production is too expensive,’ a spokesman told NOS. ‘We are going to automate and modernise production to make the factory healthy going forward.’

The site produces rookworst smoked sausages, frankfurters and canned soups, among other products. It is working on making cans thinner to save money too.

Last Friday, the Dutch central works council approved a Unilever plan to move 200 support roles from Rotterdam to countries like India and the Philippines.
