The asylum seeker who was ‘hunted down’ in Groningen by members of a right-wing vigilante group called Soldiers of Odin was not beaten up by them, police and justice officials have said in a statement.

According to RTV Noord, the man picked up the injuries during a fight in a café earlier in the evening and is not pressing charges against his attacker.

More details have also emerged about the incidents the man is said to have been involved in.

One involved harassing a 12-year-old girl, for which he will face no charges. However, he is also suspected of sexual assault in a second case which took place several days earlier, RTV Noord said.

Labour MPs have called on justice minister Ard van der Steur to make a statement about the way vigilante groups operate.
