Insurance company Achmea says it expects to post a ‘limited’ loss over the first six months of this year, due in part to the impact of the heavy storms over the past few weeks.

Achmea, which includes Interpolis and Central Beheer among its brands, said its clients have faced damages totalling €260m because of the extreme weather conditions. The net impact on the company’s balance sheet will be some €140m, the company said in a statement.

In addition, the company says it has been hit by a sharp rise in healthcare costs over the past few months, particularly due to the rising price of pharmaceuticals.

The company will publish its first half results on August 11.

The total damage caused by the storms, which mainly affected the south of the country, has been put at €1bn.
