The Dutch Olympic committee says it is disappointed that the International Olympic Committee decided not to stop all Russian athletes attending the Rio games despite the doping scandal.
While stating that he respected the IOC decision, NOC*NSF director Gerard Dielessen said: ‘We are disappointed it has not been possible to protect all the clean athletes who are going to Rio from Russian athletes who have used [doping].
‘I can imagine that it is those clean athletes who will not be happy about the situation.’
The world anti-doping agency (Wada) has also said it is ‘disappointed’ its recommendation to ban Russia from next month’s games in Rio was rejected.
The International Olympic Committee has left it up to individual sports’ federations to ban Russian competitors.
An investigation by Canadian law professor Richard McLaren has found Russia operated a state-sponsored doping programme from 2011 to 2015.
