Tennis player Kiki Bertens reaches Grand Slam quarter finals
Dutch tennis player Kiki Bertens qualified for her first Grand Slam quarter final on Wednesday, reports NU.nl.
The 24-year-old, who is ranked 58th in the world, beat American Madison Keys in two sets in the Roland-Garros French Open 2016. She beat Keys, ranked 41 places higher and seeded 15th in the tournament, 7-6 and 6-3.
Bertens is on a winning streak, after 17 consecutive singles and doubles victories. In the quarter finals, she will play Timea Bacsinsky from Switzerland, who knocked out Venus Williams in two sets in the fourth round.
‘I’m playing well, without getting tense,’ Bertens said, adding that she had ‘no words’ to describe her excitement about reaching the quarter final.
The last time a Dutch woman reached the quarter finals of a Grand Slam tournament was Michaëlla Krajicek in 2007 at Wimbledon.
The tournament was postponed for two days this week due to heavy rain in Paris.
