Corry Brokken, the first Dutch person to win the Eurovision Song Contest, has died at the age of 83.

Brokken won the competition in 1957 with Net as toen (as back then) but actually took part in the contest three times. In 1956 she failed to make an impact with Voorgoed Voorbij (over for ever) and in 1957 was joint last with Heel de Wereld (heal the world).

In 1976 she presented the contest when the Netherlands was the host nation after Teach In won with Ding a dong in 1975.

After that, at the age of 42, she went to university to study law and set up her own practice. In 1990 she was sworn in as a judge.
