Weather forecasters expect some 15 hours of straight rain in western parts of the Netherlands on Monday as a wet front moves across the country.

By the early afternoon it will be raining everywhere, which could could cause heavy traffic in the evening rush hour, weather bureau Weerplaza said.

The rain will begin to move out towards Germany in the evening.

According to news agency ANP it has only rained 15 hours without a break in the Netherlands seven times since formal records began in 1901. The last time was 22 years ago, when it rained 19 hours non-stop.

From Tuesday, when it is officially summer, it will be warmer but there will be frequent showers throughout the week, the KNMI weather bureau said.
