Spring storms on their way, heavy rain due in north and east

people with umbrellas in the rainThe KNMI weather bureau issued a code orange weather warning for parts of the country on Monday afternoon, saying that heavy showers with hail and strong winds are set to hit southern, central and eastern parts.

The localised storms brought flash floods to southern parts earlier on Monday as up to 30 millimetres of rain fell in Limburg and Brabant.

The severe weather led the Efteling amusement park to close all its outdoor attractions for a time. Some flights have also been cancelled at Schiphol airport and travellers are urged to check with their airlines for details.
