Seven Dutch nationals seriously hurt in coach crash in Belgium

ambulance dutchSeven Dutch nationals have been seriously injured in a coach crash in Belgium, news agency ANP said on Friday afternoon.

The seven are among 25 people hurt in the crash on the E17 motorway close to the French border and taken to hospital in Courtrai (Kortrijk). Most of them have cuts and bruises.

The Bovo Tours double decker coach was taking 66 people, including Dutch and Belgian nationals, to Paris.

A spokesman for the travel company told broadcaster Nos the accident happened when the bus braked ahead of a traffic jam and hit a lorry. A second lorry then ploughed into the bus, seriously injuring its Bulgarian driver.

The motorway heading for France has been closed to traffic, leading to very long tailbacks, Nos said.
