Sunnier times for hotels in 2016, says ABN Amro

Hotel receptionIt looks like a balmy year for the hotel trade, according to ABN Amro. The bank’s ‘Insights’ division predicts 3% more foreign tourists will stay at Dutch hotels, and 1% more local guests.

The hotel trade grew by 6.1% last year, mostly due to a rise in incoming tourists. Dutch local tourism dropped by 1%.

Most tourists go to Amsterdam and the coast, and since 2009 the bank says foreign visitors have grown by half.

Holiday rental websites such as Airbnb ‘create competition’, it says, with 15,000 listed rooms and homes. Two-thirds of these are in Amsterdam, and the business estimates that 7% of all visitors to the capital use Airbnb.

ABN Amro also predicts a growth of 6% in restaurant trade.
