Police have not yet released any more information about the man they arrested during a security scare at Schiphol airport on Tuesday night even though he is still in custody.

Police were tipped off by a visitor to the airport who thought there was something ‘suspicious’ about the man and his luggage and alerted the authorities.

Bomb experts were called in to inspect the man’s case. They found ‘nothing out of the ordinary’, but the man remains in custody while the police investigation continues.

Meanwhile, people who were unable to get to their cars during the alert have been told their parking fines will be torn up, if they make a complaint. Parts of the airport were closed for over four hours while police made sure the situation was safe.

One man told broadcaster Nos he had been ordered to leave his car with the motor running when the evacuation took place.
