A man has been arrested at a refugee centre in Echt on suspicion of trying to recruit people to take part in jihad, or holy war, the public prosecution department said on Thursday.

The man is a Moroccan national and has been in the Netherlands for three weeks. He is thought to have entered the country via Germany.

He was arrested after a tip-off from someone at the centre in the Limburg village.

The man has been taken into custody and the public prosecution department said it will make no further statement at this time.
