Amsterdam police arrest suspected serial rapist

Red and white police lineAmsterdam police have arrested a 34-year-old man they suspect of having raped at least three women in the Dutch capital in January.

The first woman was knocked off her bike and attacked. Two days later, a second woman was raped in the lift of a block of flats and just one day later the third was attacked near the Sloterplas lake.

All three victims were in their 20s and all three had been beaten up, police said.

‘He followed his victims for a time on his bike and then attacked them,’ a police spokesman told RTL news.

Police traced him after he tried to sell a telephone belonging to one of the victims. Pictures taken by a security camera were broadcast on a tv crime show. leading to 50 tips and the eventual arrest.

The man was arrested in a house in Purmerend.
