Brussels attacks, referendum: little impact on Dutch voting plans

The attacks in Brussels and the Ukraine referendum have had little impact on potential voting patterns in the Netherlands, according to April’s poll of polls.
The compilation of four separate opinion polls puts support for the anti-Islam PVV at between 20.6% and 23.3%, down slightly on March, but making it still the biggest party. Support for the ruling VVD remains at between 16.7% and 19.3%.
Trailing the two leaders by some 7% are the Socialists, Christian Democrats and Liberal democratic D66.
The relative stability of the polls is in line with historical patterns, poll of polls compiler Tom Louwerse told broadcaster Nos.
‘Europe is not a key issue in elections, but migration and socio-economic subjects are,’ he said. ‘We saw the same effect after the Charlie Hebdo and Paris attacks. If terrorism is key for voters, they have already made up their minds [who to vote for].’
