Three Dutch nationals are among the people killed in Tuesday’s bomb explosions at Zaventum airport in Brussels, the foreign ministry confirmed on Friday.

Foreign minister Bert Koenders, currently on a visit to Indonesia, said he wished the family and friends of the victims the courage to cope with their loss. ‘It is a terrible thing that these people were killed through the randomness of terror,’ he said.

The families of the victims were informed on Thursday night. Deventer resident Elita Weah had been on her way to a funeral in the US. Brother and sister Sascha Alexander Pinczowski came from Maastricht but their family had moved to the US several years ago.

They were on the phone to a family member when the first bomb went off and the line went dead.

In total 34 people, including three suicide bombers, lost their lives in the blasts at the airport and Maalbeek metro station.
