Sven Kramer takes world allround skating title for the 8th time

Dutch skater Sven Kramer took his eighth world allround speed skating title in Berlin on Sunday after completing the 10 kilometre event in 13.07.19.

Norway’s Sverre Lunde Pedersen was in second place and Dutchman Jan Blokhuijsen took bronze.

The allround title is made up of races over 500, 1,500, 5,000 and 10,000 metres. Kramer has won the title every year since 2007 apart from 2011 and 2014 when he was out through injury.

In the women’s event, Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic successfully saw off a challenge by Ireen Wust of the Netherlands. Wüst, who has won the world title five times, took silver and Antoinette de Jong took bronze.

The women’s event comprises the 500, 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000 metres.
