A former teacher at an orthodox Jewish school in Amsterdam has been arrested in Tel Aviv, two years after the Netherlands first requested his extradition for sexually abusing pupils, the Telegraaf said on Thursday.

The Dutch public prosecution department in 2014 asked Israel to extradite the teacher who was suspended by the Cheider school in 2012 when the allegations first emerged.

The teacher, named as Ephraim S, moved to Tel Aviv after he was sacked for ‘inappropriate behaviour’ with teenage pupils. According to one report, S had sexual contact with a 16-year-old.

The Cheider school in Amsterdam caters for children aged two to 18 and has some 200 pupils. Children have to obey a strict dress code and there are separate lessons for girls and boys.

S, 28, who denies the claims and said through his lawyer he will resist extradition, was said to be tutoring children in Israel in 2014.
