Unemployment drops most in Flevoland

The province of Flevoland experienced the highest drop in unemployment last year, according to figures released by the national statistics office CBS on Tuesday. Some 7.7% of Flevoland’s workers are now unemployed, down from 9.3% in 2014.

Last week, the CBS said the national jobless rate had fallen to 6.5% in January, down from 7.2% a year ago.

Unemployment was highest in the province of Groningen, at 8.5%. This figure remained unchanged from 2014. The southern province of Zeeland had the lowest jobless total at 5.5%. This too is unchanged from 2014.

Rotterdam has the highest unemployment rate of the four big cities, at 12%, while in The Hague 10% of the population are out of work. Amsterdam and Utrecht are closer to the national average at 7.7% and 7.3% respectively.
