Dutch police issued fewer traffic fines last year
The police handed out almost eight million traffic fines last year, down over 300,000 on 2014, according to new justice ministry figures.
The figures cover a wide range of traffic offences, from speeding to cycling without lights.
The drop is partly due to the impact of the police strike, during which fewer fines were collected. Nevertheless, the total is still well down on the 10.4 million fines issued in 2013.
The most speeding tickets were handed out to motorists on the A2 motorway between Amsterdam and Utrecht which accounted for almost 940,00 of the total. In addition, 33,000 people were fined for using a mobile phone while driving.
