Temperature plunges to -12 in eastern Groningen
Slippery conditions and heavy mist brought difficult driving conditions to much of the Netherlands on Thursday morning.
The KNMI weather bureau issued a code yellow weather warning nationwide, saying the mist should have cleared by the end of the morning.
Overnight the temperature plunged to as low as -12.3C in the town of Nieuw-Beerta in the east of Groningen province. Several days of heavy frost means keen skaters can now take to the ice in some places with shallow water, news agency ANP says.
There will be more frost on Thursday night but on Friday a chilly wind will pick up later in the day, bringing rain, black ice and snow, the KNMI says.
