New ‘Jihadi John’ was interviewed by Dutch tv in 2014

Siddhartha Dhar Abu Rumaysah NosThe masked jihadi who features in a new IS propaganda video was probably interviewed by Nos television in 2014, the Dutch public broadcaster said on Tuesday.

During the interview Siddhartha Dhar, who calls himself Abu Rumaysah, talked about the importance of the ‘caliphate’ to Muslims. ‘I’ve grown up in the west. I have lived in the United Kingdom all my life,’ he said.

‘I’ve seen what a democracy has to offer and quite frankly it is quite oppressive. You have things such as gambling, pornography, abortion… so I think we need an alternative and I believe the Sharia can provide that peace and security for everyone.’

An Nos reporter contacted Dhar via Twitter, the broadcaster said. At the time he was still in England and the interview took place via Skype.

Dhar faced terrorism charges in September 2014 but left Britain for Syria after he was bailed. It is unclear how he managed to leave the country as his passport had been confiscated.

In the latest IS video by the extremist group the masked man, who is holding a gun, mocks British prime minister David Cameron. It also shows the apparent shooting of five men whom IS claims were British spies and a young boy with a British accent.
