ADO Den Haag’s financial woes worsen, Chinese owner stays away

adoThe financial problems at The Hague football club ADO Den Haag are now so acute that salaries may not be paid at the end of February, broadcaster Nos says on Thursday.

ADO’s Chinese owner Wang Hui has failed to make two crucial payments totalling €3.7m and the club faces a liquidity crisis, the broadcaster says.

However, Wang, who did not attend a shareholders meeting on Wednesday because he was too busy, now says he has no intention of pumping money into a club which he does not control.

Problems

The club must first look at its own organisation to see what can be done to solve the problems, Wang told Nos in a telephone interview.

However, he said, he will not let the club get into such financial trouble that it is placed in special measures by the Dutch football association.

Wang, who owns United Vansen International Sports, promised to invest considerably in ADO when he completed the takeover in 2014. The club posted a €700,000 loss last season.
