First refugees arrive in NL via European quota plan

netherlands borderThe first group of asylum seekers to come to the Netherlands under the EU-wide resettlement programme will arrive in the Netherlands on Friday, broadcaster Nos says.

In total, 50 Eritrean nationals will be brought to the Netherlands from Italy on two flights – one arriving in the morning, the other in the afternoon.

In total, 160,000 refugees who have arrived in Italy and Greece will be relocated to other European countries via the plan.

The Netherlands is set to accept some 9,000 people under the quota plan.
