Station turnstiles boost train ticket sales by 2%
Ticket sales at Dutch railway stations where turnstiles have been introduced have risen by 2%, Dutch railway officials said at the weekend.
The introduction of the turnstiles has led to a 24,000 increase in paying passengers on a daily basis, the NS says.
Dozens of stations have been closed to all but travellers with tickets of public transport smart cards this year. The stated aim at the time was to improve staff safety, because most incidents of aggression involve fare dodgers.
On Monday, Deventer became the 50th station to be closed off.
