Shortage of bike parking at stations set to continue
There will still be a shortage of nearly 50,000 bike parking places near Dutch railway stations by 2020, junior infrastructure minister Sharon Dijksma told MPs on Tuesday.
Between 2012 and 2020, 250,000 additional places will have been built but this is still far from enough to meet demand, the minister said.
The lack of space is partly because bikes are a more popular form of transport than had been forecast, Dijksma said.
She wants local councils to make work of finding new sources of funding, because the government’s budget for bike parks at stations will have been spent by 2017.
