Utrecht has the busiest Dutch cycle lanes, Amsterdam the slowest cyclists

November 3, 2015

bikes central stationThe three most congested cycle lanes in the Netherlands are in central Utrecht close to the main railway station, according to research by the cyclists’ association Fietsersbond.

The Jodenbreestraat in Amsterdam and Grote Markt in Groningen complete the top five, which was compiled by 55,000 people using a special app to collect data.

The fastest cyclists are in Drenthe and Overijssel provinces, with average speeds of 15.8 kph. Amsterdam has the slowest cyclists, covering an average of 14.9 kilometres in a hour.

The association hopes the results will be used to improve cycle paths nationwide.
