Explosives experts are investigating a shed in a field close to the A2 in Limburg following the arrest of two men in what is being described as a ‘serious incident’, the Telegraaf says on Monday afternoon.

A robot has been sent to check out the shed, after police were alerted following a fire. The robot has also been used to check out a car parked nearby.

One of the two men arrested was forced to strip naked before being driven off, eyewitnesses said.  The public prosecution department will only say there has been a ‘serious incident which required direct intervention.’

However, RTL news reported that according to the Dutch counter terrorism service, there is no link between this incident and the terrorist attacks in Paris.

The A2 near Roosteren has been closed in both directions, leading to long delays. Traffic is being rerouted through Germany to avoid the A2, according to the traffic information service VID. Roosteren is close to both the Belgian and German borders.

One source told the Telegraaf locals had heard sharp bangs from the shed during the fire but police have not confirmed this, the paper says.

Limburg is also popular with firework smugglers because of its proximity to Belgium.
