Fog warning issued for most of the Netherlands

car in fogThe KNMI weather bureau said on Sunday that fog would cover most of the country on Monday morning, causing problems on the roads and at airports.

Motoring organisations say commuters face traffic jams and delays as the fog reduces visibility to as little as 60 metres in some places. Only the Wadden Sea islands remain unaffected.

In parts of Drenthe on Sunday, visibility went down to as little as 40 metres, weather website Weeronline said. There were long tail backs on the A1 and A12 because of the weather conditions.

Schiphol and Rotterdam airport are also warning travellers to expect cancellations and delays. All flights to the Netherlands from London were cancelled on Sunday evening.
