The Hague terror suspects face up to seven years in jail

lawyer court justiceNine people on trial in Amsterdam for terrorism offences should be jailed for up to seven years, the public prosecution department said on Tuesday.

All nine are accused of being members of a terrorist organisation and recruiting others to go to fight in Syria.

Originally 10 people were on trial, three in absentia, but one case was dropped because the defendant is thought to have died. Two other young men are in Syria.

Of the seven other defendants – six men and one woman – all but one have been released from custody as the trial progressed. Two of the nine are Muslim converts.

Main suspect Azzedine C, who remains in detention, should be jailed for seven years, the department said. Muslim convert Rudolph H and Erasmus University drop-out Oussama C, who at 19 is the youngest suspect, face six and five years respectively.

The trial began in September and the verdicts are due on December 10, RTL news reports.
