Postage stamp price set to rise 4 cents

post lettersPostal firm PostNL is set to increase the price of a postage stamp to 73 cents next year to offset the fall in turnover in the letters market.

The company said on Monday it has been given permission for the 4 cent rise by the Dutch consumer authority ACM.

However, the increase is not as much as PostNL had originally requested at the end of September. That request was turned down by the ACM. The company did not say what the original request was.

Currently a postage stamp costs 69 cents.

Between 2002 and 2010, stamps went up in price just once; from 39 to 44 cents. Since 2010, there has been an annual price rise.
