Minister looks at fixing May school breaks

At the moment, one week, usually the first week in May, is chosen nationally but schools themselves can choose which other week to take off.

Junior education minister Sander Dekker says he has had many complaints from parents about the situation because not all schools are closed at the same time. This makes it difficult to take a two-week break when one child’s school is open and the other is closed, Dekker told the paper.

Officials are now looking at the likely impact of a fixed two-week break, Dekker told the AD.

School summer holidays are currently staggered across three regions, so not everyone is on holiday at the same time, and there are no plans to change this.
