House evacuated following latest Groningen earthquake
One house has been evacuated and two others are under investigation in the area of Groningen hit by an earthquake last Wednesday.
Wednesday evening’s earthquake measured 3.1 on the Richter scale and was the strongest so far this year.
The epicentre was around 20 kilometres east of the city of Groningen.
Threat
A house in Sauwerd has been cleared because a problem with the construction could pose a threat to the inhabitants. Whether this is a direct result of Wednesday’s earthquake is not yet clear.
The chance of a direct connection is greater with the houses in Schildwolde and Wagenborgen, which are much nearer to the epicentre, according to the centre for safe living CVW.
The CVW has received 1,182 reports of damage since the earthquake.
The quakes are caused by the ground settling following the extraction of natural gas from under the province.
