Dutch women take silver in European volleyball competition

Dutch women volleyball silverThe Dutch women’s volleyball team took silver in the European championships, after losing the final to Russia 3-0 on Sunday.

The tournament was co-hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands.

‘We played so well throughout the tournament but… the Russians were incredibly strong and just outclassed us,’ player Manon Flier said after the game.

The Dutch women also won silver in 1991 and 2009 and took the European title in 1995. Defending champion Russia took the title for the 19th time, of which 13 were during the period of Soviet rule, broadcaster Nos pointed out.
