School head used pupils’ pictures to make child pornography

Het_4e_Gymnasium1The former head teacher of Amsterdam’s prestigious 4e Gymnasium secondary school, who was suspended in April after admitting downloading child pornography, also produced pornographic materials, according to the police investigation.

The teacher, who has not been named in Dutch media coverage, admitted in a letter to parents in April that he had downloaded child porn onto his home computer. ‘I am aware that I have been reckless and immoral,’ he wrote. ‘I have never done anything indecent with a child or young person, within or outside school.’

Now, police say, he also manipulated photographs of pupils and former pupils so that they appear pornographic. Most of the pupils involved had taken their final exams.

Parents were informed about the latest revelations at a school meeting on Wednesday night. The pupils whose photographs had been manipulated had already been told about what had happened. The school has emphasised there is no evidence the man was involved in any physical child abuse.

The 4e Gymnasium is a relatively new school located in the west of the city on the edge of the port area and has 740 pupils. Gymnasiums in the Netherlands are highly selective schools which include Greek and Latin in the curriculum.
