Number of football stadium bans rises sharply

football ballThere was a sharp rise in the number of stadium bans in the 2014-2015 football season.

The number of bans rose to 890, compared with 590 in the previous season, according to the latest figures from the central information service on football vandalism CIV.

Most of the bans were handed out following violent incidences, but a number of bans were for the possession or lighting of fireworks.

The biggest number of stadium bans were for violence at the matches FD Den Bosch-FC Oss (98) and AS Roma-Feynoord (80), the CIV said.

The police spent around 300,000 hours preparing for and attending football matches and investigating any disturbances.

Of this time, half was spent on the premier division, 20% on the first division and 15% on European football.
