Terror suspect to be released from jail, lawyer says

A terrorism suspect facing four years in jail for plotting to make bombs is to be freed directly, his lawyer André Seebregts told news agency ANP on Friday.

Moroccan national Mohamed B, who is 27, has been in custody since he was arrested in October following a tip-off from the security service AIVD.

B’s trial took place earlier this week and centred on whether he is a terrorist with actual plans to travel to Syria or someone who lives a fantasy life and made up stories about being a jihadi, a millionaire and a major drugs dealer.

The court is due to announce its ruling on September 8.

‘It is not certain but [the early release] could mean he will be found not guilty,’ Seebregts said. ‘It has become increasingly clear that we are not dealing with a terrorist but someone with a fantasy life.’
